Tri-Utes are back this 2024! The Southern Ute Indian Tribe is hosting this year’s Tri-Ute Games and is looking for athletes and coaches! Save the date for mid-summer 2024, exact dates will be announced before the end of March. Packet pick-up for coaches and players will be at SunUte Recreation. Southern Ute Education is accepting nominations for the Elbert J. Floyd Award. Please see the attachment for requirements. Eligible recipients do not need to reside on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation; however, it is asked that they can be available to receive the award in person, which will take place at the Tribal Council Chambers in Ignacio, CO. Submission is to be in writing stating the basis of nomination and returned to the Southern Ute Education Department by 5:00 pm Friday, May 03, 2024. Nominations may be received from any teacher, Tribal member, or community member, and they must be submitted to the Southern Ute Education Department. The Southern Ute Youth Employment Program’s (YEP) job posting is up and is open to Tribal Member Youth 14-17 years of age. DMV2GO will return to the Southern Ute Indian Reservation! DMV2GO is the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) exciting, new program that aims to help Coloradans who do not normally have easy access to in-office driver license services by bringing the DMV to them. DMV2GO is part of the DMV's commitment to serve all Coloradans. This program gives tribal membership, as well as local community members, a chance to address DMV issues without the required appointment at a DMV office. May 2nd will be the first of three events hosted at the Sky Ute Casino Resort in the John S. Williams Room. The other events will occur on July 10th and September 5th, 2024. The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum staff would like to invite you to the grand opening of our new exhibit, Ute Cradleboards & Baskets: Carriers of Life on Thursday, May 23rd from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum. For thousands of years, the Núuchiu (Ute) women have used nature’s resources to create containers of functional works of art that have embraced and nurtured life throughout the Ute lifecycle. This exhibit will feature over 15 cradleboards and a number of medicine baskets and water jugs – highlighting the beauty and complexity of these cultural items throughout history.
