Mission

The Human Resources Department provides services to the Tribal organization in all aspects of employment, employee benefits, and risk/emergency management.


Employment Functions

The Human Resources team advertises job openings, coordinates candidate interviews, conducts reference and background checks, drafts job descriptions, conducts new hire orientations, attends job fairs, processes volunteers and temporary contractors, coordinates temporary employment, and assists Tribal Member applicants. Human Resources facilitates the Tribal Member Apprentice Committee activities, provides employee training, assists with the interpretation of the Human Resources Policies and Procedures, and processes employee termination appeals, grievances, and disciplinary actions. The HR Director also participates in unemployment hearings, oversees contractual and consultant agreements, supervises staff, and performs other job-related duties at the direction of the Executive Office.

Employee Benefits

The Employee Benefits team is responsible for administering all of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s employee benefit plans. The Benefits team assists employees with the interpretation of employee benefits, resolves benefit-related issues, and administers Tribal employee benefit plans in accordance with current benefit trends and legislative requirements. The Employee Benefits and Compensation Manager maintains benefit vendor and broker relationships and coordinates the annual employee benefit open enrollment. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is administered by the Benefits team.

Risk and Emergency Management

The Risk and Emergency Management team provides risk assessment/analysis, employee safety training, and emergency management planning for the Tribe. The Risk and Emergency Management team provides case management and administrative oversight to the workers’ compensation program and ensures that property and casualty insurance coverage is provided for the Permanent Fund, Sky Ute Casino Resort, KSUT, Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum, and the Southern Ute Indian Housing Authority. Employee safety training, facility safety, and the planning, training, and preparedness for natural and man-made disasters are responsibilities of the Risk and Emergency Management team.

Services to Tribal Members

The Human Resources Department provides the following employment services to Southern Ute Tribal members:

  • Assistance in completing online application forms
  • Work history reviews for Tribal Members who are former Tribal employees
  • Determine driver’s insurability
  • Placement in temporary employment positions
  • Referrals for related Tribal Member programs such as youth employment programs, internships, apprenticeships, and training opportunities
