Mission

The Department of Natural Resources is empowered by the Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council with the mission to develop, administer, and manage the natural resources of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation for the benefit of the Tribe and Tribal Members. The Department is entrusted with promoting the beneficial use, protection, conservation, preservation, and developmental enhancement of the Tribe’s natural resource by using sound administrative, ecological, cultural, socioeconomic, and educational methods for the benefit of present and future generations. 


The Department of Natural Resources is responsible for developing, administering, managing and protecting the natural resources of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation for the benefit of the Tribe and present and future generations of Tribal Members.

Administration/GIS Division

The Administration Division provides general administrative guidance for and reviews Departmental and Division programs. It also provides records, file maintenance, management, and GIS services for the Department of Natural Resources and other Permanent Fund Departments and Divisions.

Agriculture Division

The Agriculture Division holds an annual Fall produce sale, rents farm equipment, offers livestock hauling, welding, fencing, spraying, and agriculture leases.

Forestry Division

The Forestry Division manages the reservation’s commercial timber lands and provides fire suppression services.

Lands Division

The Lands Division coordinates with other staff and outside parties to provide for the oversight, management, and use of the surface of Tribal Lands and the many land issues that are brought forth from use by Tribal government and members, State, Federal, and local governmental entities, private and commercial entities, as well as balancing mineral extraction activities use with other surface uses.

Range Division

The Range Division manages the use and conservation of rangelands on the Reservation.

Water Resources Division

The Water Resources Division provides for the management, conservation, and use of the surface and groundwater resources of the Tribe.

Wildlife Resource Management

The Wildlife Resource Management Division is primarily responsible for managing, protecting, and enhancing the diverse and abundant wildlife and fisheries resources of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation.
