Community Culture latest-news Honoring Native Heritage: Southern Ute Collaboration with Denver Nuggets December 5, 2025 / December 5, 2025 by tehlers The Southern Ute Indian Tribe was honored to collaborate with the Denver Nuggets for the Native American Heritage Game during Native American Heritage Month . This special halftime show on November 22, 2025 celebrated and honored the Nuuchiu and Native presence in Colorado. The program featured Heritage dancers, the Ignacio High School Boys Basketball team, Yellowjacket Singers, Tribal royalty, and representatives from Tribal Council and the Sunshine Cloud Smith Youth Advisory Council. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Denver Nuggets for providing a recording of the land acknowledgment and halftime performance, now available for viewing. Read more »

Noon as Chief of Police for the Southern Ute Police Department. Chief Noon brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience and a proven record of leadership to his new role. As a member of the Navajo Nation, his clans are Honágháahnii, born for Bilagáana. Throughout his distinguished career, Chief Noon has demonstrated expertise in managing complex operations, developing personnel, and implementing strategic initiatives. He previously served as Police Commander with the Navajo Nation Police Department (NNPD), where he spent 7 years in executive leadership. Most recently, he held the position of Chief of Police for NNPD, overseeing a force of more than 300 employees and ensuring public safety across a vast and diverse jurisdiction. Polis Southern Ute Indian Reservation – Yesterday, an opinion was issued in the lawsuit filed by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe against Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado Division of Gaming regarding the ability of the Tribes to engage in sports betting in Colorado, in accordance with the Tribes’ respective Gaming Compacts with the State. The Hon. Gordon Gallagher dismissed that lawsuit, issuing an opinion holding that the State is immune from suit under the Eleventh Amendment. The Southern Ute Indian Tribe is providing the following statement regarding the decision: “The Tribe respects Judge Gallagher and appreciates the time he has given this issue.
