Despite a quick response from Ute Mountain Ute BIA Agency and Southern Ute BIA Agency firefighters, the fire continued to grow through the night of the 13th. On July 14, 2025 the Durango Interagency Type 3 Team (IMT3) was ordered to provide oversight and additional resources to the Ute 63 Fire. The Durango Interagency IMT3 is utilizing airtankers, helicopters, 1 dozer, and approximately 96 firefighters to suppress the Ute 63 Fire. Assisting agencies include Los Pinos Fire, Fort Lewis Mesa Fire, Durango Fire, Upper Pine Fire, San Juan County NM Fire, US Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. As of 11:30 a.m. on July 16, 2025, the Ute 63 Fire has been mapped at approximately 108 acres and is 25% contained. This year, SunUte will be opening enrollment for the Tri-Ute Games to Southern Ute 2nd descendants! We are so happy to be able provide this opportunity and look forward to all the new participants! Our new athlete application deadline is May 24th. We are encouraging all enrolled Southern Ute Tribal members and Southern Ute 1st and 2nd descendants to sign up! Requirements: Must be an enrolled SU Tribal Member OR a SU 1st or 2nd descendant Ages 9-18 Must be able to provide a CIB or letter of descendancy (can be provided by TIS)

The Southern Ute Justice and Regulatory Department is happy to share the Agenda and the week’s events to show appreciation to our Law Enforcement staff who remain committed to protecting and serving our tribal community each and every day. The Southern Ute Tribal Court will also be honoring former Chief Judges Pearl E. Casias and the late Rita “Elaine” Newton with bronze plaques that will be showcased in the lobby of the Justice Complex. Light refreshments will be served following the honoring and dedication. We invite those who have time to attend this worthwhile event that allows us to acknowledge our colleagues who protect and serve the Southern Ute tribal community and also those who have done the courageous work in previous years on behalf of Southern Ute Law Enforcement. The Sky Ute Casino is proud to announce Bingo is coming back the Sky Ute Casino and Resort! On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Southern Ute tribal members are invited to attend a private Bingo games event.
