FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: BIA Fire Management – 970.563.4571 Summer Begay, PIO – 970.553.0052 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 16, 2025 Ute 63 Fire Southern Ute Indian Reservation – The lightning-caused Ute 63 Fire was discovered on the afternoon of July 13, 2025 near Morgan Canyon on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation. Despite a quick response from Ute Mountain Ute BIA Agency and Southern Ute BIA Agency firefighters, the fire continued to grow through the night of the 13th. On July 14, 2025 the Durango Interagency Type 3 Team (IMT3) was ordered to provide oversight and additional resources to the Ute 63 Fire. The Durango Interagency IMT3 is utilizing airtankers, helicopters, 1 dozer, and approximately 96 firefighters to suppress the Ute 63 Fire. Assisting agencies include Los Pinos Fire, Fort Lewis Mesa Fire, Durango Fire, Upper Pine Fire, San Juan County NM Fire, US Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. As of 11:30 a.m. on July 16, 2025, the Ute 63 Fire has been mapped at approximately 108 acres and is 25% contained. Southern Ute Behavioral Health Division would like to spread the message about the tragedy of drug overdose death. Come help us spread the word and honor those we have lost on August 30, noon to 1 PM. Our collective voices are stronger, louder, and the most impactful when brought together. “Together we can!” The venue location has been updated to the Sun Ute Recreation Park next to the Skate Park.
Tribal Office Closure Notice In observance of Labor Day, the Permanent Fund, Growth Fund, and SUSS offices will be closed on Monday, September 02, 2024. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 03, 2024.
The Southern Ute Health Center will be closed on September 2, 2024, for the Labor Day holiday. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. All phone calls for the Southern Ute Health Center will be answered by the Triage Line. Please call (970) 563-4581.
The Southern Ute Indian Tribe is excited for the upcoming 102nd Annual Tribal Fair, Powwow, and Rodeo which will be held September 4-8, 2024, and September 13-15, 2024. For more information, please visit the Southern Ute Tribal Fair webpage https://www.southernute-nsn.gov/culture/fair-and-powwow/ to review the Fair Premium Book with exhibit information and up-to-date information. Hard copies of the 2024 Southern Ute Fair Premium Book will be mailed out to all Southern Ute Tribal Member Heads of Household the second week of August via USPS.
