Description

The Southern Ute Boarding school was built in 1902 and remained in place until 1920. It was turned into the Southern Ute Agency Vocational School in 1930, students actively attended the school through 1981. A comprehensive assessment and documentation of the historic building and murals was completed in 2020. Following much review, discussions with Tribal Members, and careful consideration, Tribal Council directed staff to demolish the Head Start building in January of 2023. Construction began in September 2024 and reached substantial completion the first week of December 2024.
