Southern Ute Indian Tribe welcomes Melvin J. Baker to fourth term on Tribal Council

Southern Ute Reservation – The Southern Ute Election Board confirmed the certification of votes, declaring Mr. Melvin J. Baker as the candidate receiving the highest number of votes. Baker, sworn-in to office this morning, will be serving his fourth term on Tribal Council.

“I am looking forward to learning what has changed since I left office in December 2016. I welcome the challenge and am excited to work with the sitting Tribal Council,” affirmed Mr. Baker.

Mr. Baker retired from political service after his third term and after a total of seven and half years advocating for the tribal membership. After retirement, Mr. Baker spent many hours devoted to his farm but felt compelled to run for this Special Election.

“Mr. Baker has a lot of valuable history he gained while in office and I am positive it will benefit the entire Council and our direction,” declared Chairman Christine Sage.
